These are the days

It is one of the most beautiful days of the year. The yellow sun is standing high on the blue sky, the birds had started the day off by singing early in the morning, tenderly waking the neighbourhood from its deep slumber by their lovely chirping sounds.
Charlotte Hall was one of them whose got woken up like that this particular morning. Standing in her kitchen by the cooker, she’s enjoying the moment of preparing her lunch… it’d only get better once she gets to enjoy it out on her beloved veranda. The early summer had begun lurking people out from their houses, to spend most of their days out under the beaming summer sun. And for once, Charlie can fully relax as the holidays had just started the other day.
Standing by the cooker stiring her soup in slowly yet firm motions, she hears a low knock on the front door. Wiping her wet hands off on a green small towel, she goes to open it and is greeted by her neighbour and good friend, Sophie.
"Oh Charlie, I’m sorry to disturb you, but do I have some good news I wanna share with you” Sophie squeals and pushes past her friend through the doorway.
”How nice of you to…ehm, burst in like this Soph” Charlie follows the excited girl into the kitchen.
”Oh, you’re about to have lunch. This won’t take long though” Sophie says, jumping up on the tidy counter.
”You don’t have to rush. Why don’t you join me out on the veranda? There’s plenty of soup if you want some?”
”That would be lovely, thanks” Sophie smiles and takes a bowl from the cupboards.
The two of them heads out to the veranda and takes a seat opposite each other. The veranda is Charlies favourite place during the summers, she’s spend so many summers on her granny’s during her younger years and ever since, she’d been determind to have one of her own in her future home.
”So, mind telling me what the latest scoop is?”
Sophie looks up from her bowl of soup, her hazel eyes shining in excitement.
”Well… you know the house up on the street that was sold a few months ago? The one we made fun of saying the person who bought it probably had forgot he/she actually had bought it since no one ever moved inside?”
”Yeah.. ”
”Well” Sophie continues, stuffing one more spoon of soup in her mouth. ”The new owner finally ‘found’ it and he moved in earlier this morning”
”Wow finally! That was about time... wait a minute, did you say ‘he’ ?” Charlies eyes lits up.
”Yes!! And that’s why I’m so excited!! It’s certainly a he and he’s absolutely gorgeous Charlie!” Sophie says, jumping in her chair so her brown hair flies everywhere.
Charlie can’t help but laugh at her friend’s behaviour. She looks like a big child recently having discovered Santa Claus. ”Haha, Soph… are you already drooling over the poor lad? How long has he been living here… 6 hours?”
”Well, you’re going to faint when you lay your eyes on him. He’s the neighbourhood’s new stud... definitely! I never saw a miss or mrs over at his place which makes him the perfect target”
”You’re stalking him? How low of you Sophie… that’s low” Charlie teases while Sophie’s shaking her head in protest.
”Whatever Charlotte, whatever! But I’ve got an idea.. thanks to Bree Van de Kamp” she laughs.
”Oh really? Let me hear this idea of yours?”
”Well, we have to make our new neighbour feel welcome to our ‘lovely’ neighbourhood right?.. so I thought you and I could go up there and give him a welcome gift”
”A welcome gift? What kind of thing did you have in mind?”
”Nothing fancy really, food or whatever. I don’t know… what do you give to new neighbours? Wait, I’ve got it… flowers!”
”Flowers Sophie?! Hello, we’re talking about a guy here… they will die after only a few days! They don’t know how to look after flowers. Why don’t we bring a cake and some chocolate?” Charlie suggests, putting her empty bowl on the table in front and leans back against the chair.
”Oh I see where you’re going with this, Bree all way through huh? Yeah, that sounds good. Ok” Sophie smirks, standing up. ”I run to the store and get some chocolate and you use your magic and make him a fabulous cake and I’ll see you later”
”What?! Wait! Why do I have to make the cake? That’s not fair Sophie! This was your idea” Charlie protests.
”Yeah, it was my idea to go and give him a welcome present, but it was your idea to give him a cake” Sophie points out, disappearing into the house leaving a speechless Charlie on the veranda.
“Now, where did I put my cook book?”
