    ban the banner?

just wondered where people stood on the opinion of posters at mcfly gigs?

i don't know what comes over me. i have this amazing urge to hold that piece of card with a cheesy yet possibly witty comment on it :)

    BUT

i very much know and understand the ffffrustration banners cause by blocking someones view.

so i tend to think of others and have the poster be merely an idea.

...the urge is a huge one though, i must say :)

what do other people think of posters?

I have taken a banner to my last two mcfly gigs.
And I only hold them up for about 5 seconds or a tiny bit more and when they are looking.
But they are annoying if people hold them up all the time.
its like " PUT IT DOWN, IF THEY HAVNT SAID ANYTING NOW THEY NEVER WILL!"

ahhh so banners are acceptable in small doses.
the laaaast thing i wanna do is upset a fellow mcfly fan lol, so had to ask.

it seems appropriate also to hold up a poster (if it relates to a song) to only hold it up when that song is being performed.

there needs to be a set of DOs and DONTs lol

in standing they bug me, but seated tiers it's not to bad, because you are at least a bit higher eve if you are right behind the banner.

i dont ind people holding them up when the bands are like "lets see your banners then" but unless your in the front like.. 10 people i doubt the band can even see them anyway. lol. unless they're HUGE in which case i'd get pretty pissed off.

dougie loves my mcfly shrine (:

lol HUGE posters would annoy to the max... which is why i scrapped my idea of the possiblity of a banner big enough for a whole row to hold! lol

your prob right about your poster not being seen actually.

    banners annoy me.
like people have said, its okay if its just for a bit.
but when i was fourth row at sheffield last year, a group of girls blocked my view for ages with their stupid banner, so i actually shouted at them.

they soon put it back down again.

i only take a banner if i intend on being on barrier, that way i can hold it over and not hold it up.

    Re: ban the banner?

i took a banner to my first mcfly gig , and only held it up when mcfly first came on stage and after that i didn't hold it up again.
when i was on the greatest hits tour , this lass was stood on the chair holding a banner & i couldn't see for like most of the gig.
Although , i think holding banners are good when they see "let's see your banners" & what not!

    Re: ban the banner?

I don't really mind tbh but I can get frustrated with the banners as they block your view of the performance, but then I can understand why you do make banners and hold them up so that the artist can see what they written.

    Re: ban the banner?

It depends on a few things.

    1. Is it standing or sitting gig?

    2. Your position at the venue.

If you're front row for either of these you could hold a banner because you can hold it over the barrier if you like because that way the lads see it and you're not obstructing views.

I suggest holding banners up either in between songs (for a couple of seconds) or whenever they ask for banners to be held up (if ever).

Don't have huge monuments with chipboard and fairy lights though.

    Use your noggin.

    And make them original.

Do me Dougie style, bang me like your drums, Tom's star girl (arrow pointing downwards) etc.

McFly won't be arsed reading them if they're the above lame captions they see at every gig. Use your imagination, keep them short and use big letters that stand out. And good luck.

Tom's read two of my banners. And it gives you a tingly feeling of happiness. He even gave me a thumbs up for the first one. Dougie didn't get the second one. Silly boy.
